Minister Counselor resigns at the embassy of El Salvador in Sweden due to disagreements in breastfeeding hours for her daughter

Sweden – In an open letter made public through his Twitter account, Tatiana Pineda, who before her resignation was holding the position of Minister Counselor at the Embassy of El Salvador in Sweden, concurrent for Norway, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. And she added in her letter “I am the only mother with a nursing baby in the foreign service”, presented his resignation to continue in the diplomatic headquarters.

According to the letter, I also tag the President of the Republic and the First Lady, about his resignation, expressed his disagreement with administrative decisions made by Ambassador Patricia Godínez.

The controversy is that the Minister Counselor Tatiana Pineda, I request to breastfeed your daughter at the end of your working day, but it was not accepted and the noon time was offered, something that the diplomat does not accept either.

"Unfortunately, the 15 June 2022, I received Memorandum No. GIVE/N°. -2022, with subject SCHEDULE ON BREASTFEEDING, on behalf of Karla Jeannette Quintanilla Menjívar, Director of Legal Affairs. Whereby, The undersigned is required to establish a new schedule for the interruption of the working day due to breastfeeding for one hour, at the time of 12:45 a 1:45 p.m.; and in follow-up, I again expressed my willingness to take the time for breastfeeding at the end of the working day in a response note to said communication dated 18 June 2022.”

“…I was notified of the approval of such an important benefit on 21 April 2022, to take the breastfeeding break at the end of the working day, according to my request. That same day in the morning I was notified of a personnel action…”

“… Not a few weeks passed when Ambassador Patricia Godínez asked me in 3 occasions… Coming to threaten the day 27 of May and 30 May of 2022, that “if she did not change the breastfeeding time proposed by her, I would request my transfer” … he wrote in the letter.

Given the disagreement, she was notified that she would be transferred to the embassy of El Salvador in Israel as an administrative assistant..

“… due to the disrespect for the breastfeeding rights of both my daughter and mine, for not being able to accept the new position to guarantee the well-being of my family and for my dignity as a professional of the diplomatic career, I am forced to file my IRREVOCABLE RESIGNATION…”, reiterated in the letter Tania Pineda.

But nevertheless, reiterated its willingness to continue exercising its right. "I sincerely request your good offices to guarantee the rights and well-being of my daughter, as well as protect the integrity… So, attentively informed again my willingness to legally exercise the right to breastfeed at the end of the working day…”

After failing to reach any agreement, the diplomat wrote: “Now I will resume my role to serve our country from the Civil Society being part of the diaspora. Likewise, I reiterate my commitment to be an agent of positive change, hoping that my actions will continue to contribute to the development of my beautiful country”.
