Panama – The 2021 closes with a historical figure in Panama, with the seizure of 126 tons of drug, mostly cocaine and more than 12 million dollars in cash, product of organized crime activities, reported the Ministry of Security.
This exceeds the figures of previous years, in 2020 a total of 81,7 tons; in 2019 (86,8) and in 2018 (76,8).
Of the 126 tons of drugs seized, the National Police seized 29 thousand 525 packages, the National Border Service 11 thousand 011 and the National Aeronaval Service 86 thousand 332.
Seizures have been recorded on the Pacific coast, ports in the Caribbean and airports. Colón is the province with the most drugs seized, mostly in containers with more than 50 tons, Chiriquí follows with 20 and Panama with 18.
For the Ministry of Security, the results of this 2021 have been successful in fighting criminal groups. "The anti-drug strategy is working, the results are seen ", affirmed the minister Juan Manuel Pino.
The drug was seized in more than 120 operations against drug trafficking, that have allowed the capture of 710 people.
