The authorities attributed much of the success of the strategy to intelligence work and the exchange of information between countries.
The Minister of Security, Juan Pino said that coordinated coordination with the countries of the region, especially with Colombia it allows the seizure of large quantities of drugs and reduces the movement through the jungles of Darién, located on the border shared by both nations.
As part of the strategy to stop drug trafficking, Panama strengthened surveillance in the territory with special emphasis on the borders and maritime zones because drug traffickers take advantage of the inhospitable condition of the mountainous area of Darién to introduce drugs through "backpackers.".
"The permanent surveillance of Senafront units (border police) has caused the so-called backpackers, that are used by drug traffickers to move and introduce drugs to Panama, look for other routes ", Minister Pino assured in a statement.
