More of 10 a thousand soldiers were assigned to a plan against gangs in El Salvador

Some 1.046 military joined a security plan against gangs, with which the 10 one thousand members of the Armed Forces throughout the country, is half of the active soldiers in the territory.

President Nayib Bukele announced the increase in the number of military personnel and that they would be assigned to security tasks, It is the fourth phase of the Territorial Control Plan that will help the National Civil Police (PNC) with security tasks:

"Tomorrow we will see the result of these 1.046 men and women who join the Armed Forces, who will be patrolling our streets, addressing public transport units, at the bus stops, in the historic centers and giving security to our population ".

The Salvadoran president pointed out that the fourth phase of the security plan is called "duplicating" and its implementation will take five years, every fifteen weeks they will be incorporated around 1.000 military elements, so that in five years there will be more than 40 thousand:

"This project, phase four that will double the number of the Armed Forces, it will guarantee us to have enough human capital to be able to defeat the gangs in their territories ".

The new members of the Army attended the regular Training Program that lasted 15 weeks and in which, according to the authorities, they acquired the necessary skills to support the security strategy.

The Territorial Control Plan was launched in June 2019 and the first part of the second phase was financed with its own resources according to the Salvadoran Government, Therefore, to continue the following phases, a loan of 109 millions of dollars.

The money was approved by the last legislature and awarded in October 2019 by the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (BCIE) and was recently endorsed by the new Congress, with a large pro-government majority.
