Vegetable production plan is launched in the north of El Salvador

The Savior – The president of the Republic, n watch, launched the food security and sovereignty component, of the phase 1 of the Agricultural Rescue Master Plan, improving cabbage vegetable production, onion and tomato (RECIPE), for the benefit of salvadorans.

The event was held in the department of Chalatenango, where this strategy starts, which will favor more than 860 horticulturists of the municipalities of San Ignacio and La Palma.

The RECETO program will be executed with an initial investment of $24 millions, with which they will be delivered 600 greenhouses and irrigation technology system, with guarantee of 10 years. This project will generate self-sustainability and food self-sufficiency for the country.

The RECETO program will be a generator and promoter of jobs, with an estimate of 3,500 direct jobs and 18,000 indirect, benefiting the 33 municipalities of Chalatenango with the execution of more works for the area, explained the president.

Through the initiative, The Government seeks to achieve greater productivity and profitability of the vegetables most consumed by the population: cabbage, onion and tomato; so it will benefit more than 860 horticulturists of the high zone of Chalatenango, La Palma and San Ignacio, with agile financing in favorable conditions for the farmer, technological innovations, agricultural inputs and specialized technical assistance in production and marketing.

As well, the commitment is to reduce the high levels of dependence on imports of agricultural products, especially in vegetables; since it is registered in tomato the 92 % of production is imported, of the cabbage 42 % and the onion 97 %.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock will install more 600 greenhouses, that will have climate-resilient technology, 100 of them will have precision irrigation systems for controlled production, where the technical assistance of extensionists from the MAG and the National Center for Agricultural and Forestry Technology becomes essential “Enrique Alvarez Cordova (CENT), in addition to the advice of Israeli experts.
