The Delegation of the European Union (EU) in El Salvador reports that the European Commission has recognized 1 December the equivalence between the COVID-19 certificates issued by El Salvador and the EU digital COVID Certificate, becoming the second country in Latin America to obtain it, after Panama.

As a result, Salvadoran travelers will be able to travel under the same conditions as those from the EU since now El Salvador will be connected to the system and their certificates will be accepted under the same conditions as the EU digital document. At the same time, El Salvador agreed to accept the EU digital accreditation for citizens traveling to the Central American country.

Thus, mutual recognition of both vaccination systems is consolidated, systems interoperability is guaranteed and the possibility of using fraudulent certificates is eliminated.

An EU digital COVID certificate is an accreditation in which a person has been vaccinated, or a test has been performed that has been negative, or has recovered from this disease.

This reduces the cost for many travelers and businessmen., that will be able to move around Europe without the need for PCR (under the same conditions established by each country for its nationals).

The European Commission also confirmed that the COVID-19 vaccination certificates, of diagnostic and recovery tests issued by El Salvador in accordance with the "Electronic Vaccination Certificate" system contain the necessary data.

The 25 November the European Commission proposed an update of the rules on the coordination of free and safe movement in the EU established in response to the pandemic. He also proposed an updated framework for travel from outside the EU., with priority for vaccinated travelers and strict safeguards, where it included the validity of the Salvadoran document to enter its member states.
