U.S – Juan Gonzalez, Chief Advisor to President Joe Biden, expressed to EFE his concern about what is happening in El Salvador and said that it is necessary to take action soon. "The United States wants to coordinate with other countries to prevent El Salvador from becoming another Venezuela".

The US official explained that El Salvador shows worrying signs due to the actions of President Nayib Bukele. "Use popularity to weaken the democratic system. We have seen it in other parts of Latin America and it is something that worries us a lot ", so expressed it.

Juan González recalled that the United States has a firm commitment to the democratic system of the region and this leads them to closely observe what is happening in the Central American country: "We have seen this movie before, in places like Venezuela, where someone uses popularity to create an authoritarian system, and that has not served the Venezuelan people ".

While, Biden's adviser stressed that the United States has the tools to stop the advance of authoritarianism, but the goal with El Salvador is to establish the conditions that allow prosperity. “We have a fairly close relationship with the Salvadoran people, and we will continue working with them ", clarified.

Meanwhile, regretted how corruption prevents progress in the Northern Triangle country and weakens the accountability of its authorities. He pointed out the importance of the international community being alert to what is happening.
