Ibáñez wins the sixth Salvadoran medal in Cali

After two days of stiff competition, in which he not only had to fight with athletes from other countries, but also with the changing climate of Cali, Salvadoran Esteban Ibáñez hung the silver medal tonight in the decathlon of the I Junior Pan American Games Cali-Valle 2021.

Ibanez, who was left with the medal after accumulating a total of 6,966 points, shared the award podium with the Brazilian José Ferreira Santana who won the gold (7,360 points) and the Argentine Damián Gabriel Moretta took the bronze (6,959).

"I thank my coach, to my family and my girlfriend. I looked so hard for this medal, i trained so much, I wanted it, I asked so much and thank God it was given. The truth is I am super happy ", The athlete said that his birthday was next Sunday and he gave himself the medal.

On his way to the medal, Ibáñez added 845 units in the flat 100m; 838 long jump; 527 in shot put; 785 high jump; 812 in 400m flat; 867 in the 110m hurdles; 473 in discus throw; 590 pole vault; 576 in javelin throw and 653 in the 1,500m flat.

"After the Suramericano in Guayaquil I received a lot of criticism and I think this, I don't want to call it shut your mouths, rather it is an achievement of all those who have always been supporting me ", expressed the athlete.

Thus, Ibáñez joins badminton players Uriel Canjura and Fátima Centeno who contributed two silver medals, as well as the archers Paola Corado and Gerardo Rivas who added two bronzes, and the skater Ivonne Nóchez, who also won bronze.
