The Government of El Salvador (GOES) ordered the suspension of the start of face-to-face classes throughout the country due to the sustained rise in COVID-19 cases observed for four weeks.
The decision was made by the Ministry of Health, after doing epidemiological analysis of the results of community screening, sentinel surveillance, community sweeps and care provided in the health services network constantly monitored.
Given the health alert and considering that the student population has certain particular characteristics, the Ministry of Health asked the Ministry of Education to suspend the return to classrooms, until new notice, according to the evolution of the pandemic.
The Minister of Health, Francisco Alabi, explained that the measure takes into account the high flow of assistance to the different educational centers, that conditions risk scenarios such as mass mobilization in school transport, public transport, interaction in school recreation areas, which increase the possibility of transmission.
“The classrooms are closed spaces, that condition the ease of contagion through aerosols, which has been repeatedly demonstrated by the scientific community, as the main transmission mechanism ", expressed the official.
