Salvadoran writer wins international poetry prize "José Hierro"

Spain – Salvadoran writer Roxana Méndez has won the XXXIII José Hierro International Poetry Prize, thanks to his work "Los Bañistas", winner among more than 600 works for his “great beauty and originality”.

Roxana Mendez, awarded with the José Hierro International Poetry Prize awarded by the San Sebastián City Council , SanseCulture.

The judge, composed by Olvido García Valdés, carolina alba castro, Cinnamon Purity, Antonio Hernandez, Manuel Rico and Ángel García López has highlighted the quality of the winning work, as well as the general quality of the works presented, what comes to support, one more year, the prominence that this award has acquired throughout its successive editions.

For the first time in this edition, The José Hierro Poetry Prize has become an international competition, in commemoration of the hundred years of the birth of the poet. The City Council has had the participation of RTVE, who has been in charge of disseminating and supporting the contest, giving greater prominence if possible to this prestigious award.

Tatiana Jimenez, Councilor for Culture, stressed the international nature of the José Hierro Prize and pointed out "the privilege of having a poet from El Salvador, that he has won with a book of great beauty and that has enthused the members of the jury”.

More than six hundred and thirty books have been submitted to this edition, from various countries, which makes the José Hierro International Poetry Prize one of the poetry contests with the highest participation in our country.
