The Government of El Salvador launched the Virtual Consulate for compatriots abroad

The Consular Attention Center for Salvadorans Abroad or Virtual Consulate was promoted by the authorities in the last hours and will provide the service to nationals in Mexico, United States and Canada. They enabled the toll-free number 1883011130, the call is free, as explained by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Alexandra Hill.

It is estimated that around 2,9 million Salvadorans live in the United States, 84 one thousand Salvadorans reside in Canada and 11.200 in Mexico. The virtual center has the capacity to attend 850 daily calls between 6 in the morning and 6 pm, Monday to Friday and from 8 from morning to 12 noon, Saturdays and Sundays.

Through the calls you can schedule appointments for the issuance of passports, Unique identity document (DUI), documents to support the National Registry of Natural Persons, legal advice, Family Status Registry documents and immediate attention on Human Rights, migrant childhood and adolescence, investment information, among other topics.

The authorities set up a WhatsApp line so that nationals in other countries can write, the number is 7070-1071.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that the traditional telephone system that different consulates had was not enough to serve the more than 3 millions of Salvadorans abroad, since they were currently received on average 150 daily calls: "Obviously that demand was impossible to meet".

For the Virtual Consulate, an investment of 169 one thousand dollars, that come from the Fund for Special Activities for Attention to Salvadorans Abroad and for Returnees (FOSALEX), in addition to the Comprehensive Organization for Migration (WHO).

Vice President Félix Ulloa was present at the inauguration of the service, and the Secretary of Innovation Vladimir Handal, among other officials.
