The Savior – A publication of El Faro, reveals that the former president of El Salvador, Alfredo Cristiani, Opened 16 front companies in the British Virgin Islands and Panama, considered internationally as tax havens.
The data was obtained through a project coordinated by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (in English, ICIJ).
The investigation, realizes that the ex-president opened eight companies in each of those two countries from 1995, that is to say, one year after leaving the presidency of El Salvador.
The British Virgin Islands and Panama are recognized for receiving foreign capital, who receive tax benefits and obtain total discretion over the identity of the company's shareholders and beneficiaries.
