Historical memoir of the Alma Mater

They broke taboo on the professional training of women at the University of El Salvador. Before the 1950s, Salvadoran women had few opportunities to study at the UES and achieve an academic degree., especially in health sciences (Medicine, odontology) and in Engineering, were considered exclusive to men.

For the historical memory of the UES, two women who broke this atavism at the University of El Salvador deserve recognition, It is about Antonia Navarro and María Isabel Rodríguez, who showed the way, of how to overcome the difficulties that arose both in the study and in the exercise of a university career.

Antonia Navarro Huezo, set a precedent by being the first woman to graduate as a Doctor in Topographical Engineering, at the University of El Salvador in September 1889.
