Jail or witness protection: the roads for the wife of Chapo Guzmán

Emma Coronel Aispuro, wife of Joaquín “el Chapo” Guzmán Loera, the considered drug dealer, and former leader of the Sinaloa cartel, expects to face a court hearing in the United States, next march three.

The woman, of 31 year old, stopped the past 22 February at Dulles International Airport, en Virginia, U.S, is accused for her alleged participation in International Drug Trafficking.

Colonel, US and Mexican citizen, born in Culiacán, Sinaloa, Mexico, is charged with participating in conspiracy to distribute cocaine, methamphetamine, heroin  Y marijuana, for import into the United States, according to Department of Justice reports.

Likewise, the report indicates that the woman conspired with others to help Guzmán plan his escape from the Altiplano, the 11 July 2015.

further, Authorities note that after Guzmán was arrested again in Mexico in January 2016, Coronel is alleged to have been involved with other, in another escape attempt planning, before the extradition of the kingpin, to the United States in January 2017.

Guzmán Loera was found guilty and sentenced to life in prison by a jury in the Eastern District of New York, in 2019 for his role as leader of the Sinaloa cartel.

Until now, it is not clear if the authorities could agree with the detainee, a cooperative agreement as a protected witness.

The Department of Justice and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) they have not yet ruled on it.
