Authorities urge staying home in dangerous winter storm

U.S – Authorities of the city of Houston call on the population to stay home, at least until Tuesday, due to the possible closure of roads, loss of water pressure, cancellation of bus service due to the hit of a dangerous winter storm.

In the face of imminent danger, some school districts like Katy, Fort Bent, Galveston, Refer, Humble and Aldine, announced, school closings, until Tuesday.

Even though, to face the emergency, the population should be prepared with basic necessities such as water, canned or non-perishable food, combustible, lamps, extra sails and chargers, reality painted differently in supermarkets.

After a tour between Thursday and Friday through supermarkets, dozens of people were seen with carts packed with holiday food on the occasion of the Valentine's Day celebration, the 14 February.

The winter storm also sped up humanitarian aid organizations; volunteers came to the rescue of homeless people who will spend the night, while the emergency lasts, in temporary shelters open at various points in the space city.

Laredo, San Antonio and Dallas as well as other cities in the center of the country, would suffer a drop in temperature between 20 a 40 degrees below normal, according to the National Meteorological Center.

Lina Hidalgo, Harris County Judge, warned that extreme winter conditions are a threat to Texas as highway infrastructure is prepared to withstand hurricanes, not for extreme winter weather like snow, water snow and ice.
