The mayor of Houston, Silvester Turner, reached an agreement with workers, airline representatives, concessionaires and subcontractors so that the employees of the three airports of the city are benefited with a staggered increase in salary, that will begin to be effective immediately.
The hourly rates that the parties negotiated with Mayor Turner were set at $10.39 in 2019, $11.22 in 2020 Y $12.00 in 2021 Y 2022.
According to sources from the George Bush Airport Workers Union, it was not easy to reach this agreement, for which they celebrate this achievement that will benefit hundreds of workers from the air terminals in the area.
The minimum wage in Texas is $7.25 per hour, figure that is also paid employees at airports. With this executive agreement, salary minimum will reflect an increase of almost $3.00.
Houston has two commercial airports that are major, Bush Intercontinental y William P. Hobby. Both strategically located near hotels and convention centers and the Central District.
A third air terminal is Ellington Airport which is currently used to support operations of Armed forces, from NASA, as well as aviation activities in general.
Official data show that annually, at least some 58 millions of people pass through these airports. Y, of that figure, about seven million are international travelers.
